Composite dressings are covers for wounds that are comprised of multiple layers or components. They serve multiple uses, including acting as a barrier against infection, absorbing wound seepage and (sometimes) adhesion to the skin. 

The advantage of composite dressings is that they are easy to apply and remove, are typically permeable for moisture/vapour, and can be used on infected sites. They are also often used with wound ointment and unguents which promote wound healing or skin recovery from trauma.
